Water Leak Detection and Repair

Common areas for water leaks:
- Toilet Flapper Valve: NOTE: MAKE SURE TO FLUSH THE TOILET AFTER 15 MINUTES TO PREVENT STAINING YOUR TOILET BOWL you can add a little bit of food coloring to to the top reservoir of your toilet, and if the food coloring makes it into the bowl within 15 minutes, you have a leaking flapper valve.
- Leaking Shower Head: Go into your shower and count the drips. If it is more than 10 drips per minute, you are wasting more than 500 gallons per year!
- Irrigation/Sprinklers: Your irrigation system should be inspected every spring to ensure that no pipes have cracked or ruptured over the winter due to cold/freezing temperatures. A common occurrence is a leaking sprinkler valve.
- Hose Bibs: your hose bibs can also be a source of a slow leak. Inspect for leaks, and if water drips out when you have a hose connected, try replacing the rubber washer/gasket on the end of the hose.
